Colorado Festivals and Events – January

WINTERSKOL – Aspen/Snowmass 11-13th – An annual festival in Aspen that celebrates the winter season.  The festival dates back to 1951 when locals chose to commemorate Aspen’s distinctive mountain way of life with a diverse weekend of events.  The four-day festival showcases on-mountain activities including snow sculptures, soup contest, beer festival, torchlight descent and fireworks on the mountain.

ICE FESTIVAL – Ouray 18-21st – The town is transformed into an ice-climbing mecca with classes on ice climbing and actual climbing at the public park.  Other activities include a dance, films, pool party at the hot springs pool and more.  Funds raised for the event benefit the public ice park.

SNOWDOWN – Durango 26-Feb. 4th – The 45th annual event.  The theme this year is Peace, Love, and Snowdown.  The event includes Follies, fashion show, light parade, Chili Cook Off & Bloody Mary Contest and outlaw Josie Pete’s Showdown Golf Tournament.

WINTER X GAMES – Aspen 26-28th – The games began 30 years ago with the first Extreme Games held in Rhode Island and included 27 summer sport activities.  The event was so popular that in 1998 Crested Butte Mountain Resort hosted Winter X Games Two.  The events have thrived and continued on through the years.  It is three days of hear-pounding action and includes athlete autograph signings, concessions, beer & wine garden and free competition viewing of Big Air, Knuckle Huck and Slopestyle.

FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK – Montrose Center for the Arts – A  new art exhibit opens to the public on the first Friday of each month.  The featured artist is at the opening and available to speak with.  There is also live music, catered snacks and beverages.
