BLACK CANYON OF THE GUNNISON NATIONAL PARK NORDIC ACTIVITIES – Winter at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park offers a variety of Nordic activities for outdoor enthusiasts. The South Rim Drive, closed in the winter to vehicles beyond Gunnison Point, transforms into a groomed trail for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, providing a scenic 6-mile route with access to several overlooks for both classic and skate skiing. For those who like snowshoeing, the South Rim Ski and Snowshoe Trail is an excellent starting point. Intermediate snowshoers might enjoy the upper part of the Oak Flat Loop Trail, and more experienced adventurers can tackle the steep descent of the lower portion. This system features 8.42 miles of groomed trails located on the Uncompahgre Plateau, near the intersection of Dave Wood Road and Divide Road, approximately 36 miles southwest of Montrose. Managed by the Uncompahgre Nordic Association, these trails provide a serene and scenic environment for cross-country skiing enthusiasts of all levels. The trails are maintained throughout the winter, ensuring excellent conditions for skiing as long as the snowpack allows. POLAR EXPRESS TRAIN RIDE – Durango – 11/22-12/23 – All aboard the Polar Express for a magical ride for the whole family. Enjoy hot chocolate, a light show, and holiday music while gliding along the tracks.

MIND BLOWN TELLURIDE – Friday/Saturdays 12/6-3/29 – Come see this 75-minute magic performance that will have you questioning the known. You will laugh, question reality, and not soon forget this experience. Recommended for ages 12 and over.

HOLIDAY ARTS BAZAAR – Telluride – 12/6-8th – Enjoy this 3-day holiday market that sells a variety of locally made items. The handcrafted goods include jewelry, gourmet food, clothing and ceramics.

WINTERSKOL – Aspen – 12-15th – Watch with amazement, the 29th annual ski and snowboard film. This year’s film delves into the athletes and their attempts to turn whimsical images into reality.

GIN & GINGERBREAD – Ridgway – 18th – Enjoy a festive adult evening decorating your own Gingerbread house. Refreshments included.

NEW YEAR’S EVE TORCHLIGHT PARADE & FIREWORKS – Telluride – 31st – Enjoy the evening watching the Telluride Ski and Snowboard School Staff wind down the mountainside in a parade of Torchlights. Fireworks will light up the night sky at the conclusion of the parade.

Montrose Arts and Events

SANTA’S CABIN – 526 E Main St – Nov 20-Dec 20th – Come visit Santa at his Montrose Cabin. Roast marshmallows and drink hot cocoa by the fire pit. Don’t forget to get your picture taken with Santa.

FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK – Montrose Center for the Arts – 6th – New art exhibit opens to the public each month. The featured artist is at the opening. There is live music, catered snacks and beverages.

PARADE OF LIGHTS – East Main St – 7th – The annual Parade of Lights hosted by the City of Montrose is at 5 pm on Saturday. Enjoy amazing parade floats decorated in the theme of “Candy Cane Lane.” Don’t miss Santa waving hello at the end.

“SNOW” – A WINTER WONDERLAND – Montrose Pavilion – 7th & 8th – Join the Valley Symphony Association in a blizzard of carols and holiday cheer.

WATERCOLOR TECHNIQUES: ‘CHRISTMAS CARDS– Weehawken – 10th – Paint your own Christmas cards with watercolors. This class is recommended for beginners and intermediate artists.

WINTER STOKE & SKI WAXING – 245 W Main St14th – The Uncompahgre Nordic Association’s annual fundraiser helps to offset the costs of maintaining and managing the 12k of ski trails on Divide Road. Technicians will wax your skis ($30 donation) for you. While there, purchase dinner of chili along with dessert and a beverage, all provided by volunteers. Items with be available to bid on at the silent auction.

NUTCRACKER REMIXED – Weehawken – 12th-15th – Join us for an enchanting evening of the famous ballet “The Nutcracker,” woven together in a tapestry of dance styles.

2024 GARDEN OF LIGHTS – Montrose Botanic Gardens – 14th-26th – Come see this year’s lights as they brighten the garden paths and displays. Enjoy a horse-drawn wagon ride and hot cocoa with Santa.
