Grand Junction, Colorado
Grand Junction is located over an hour north of Montrose. It is the largest city on the western slope of Colorado. The Gunnison and Colorado River connect and is how the city received it’s name. The area was once home to the Ute tribe but in 1880 the US government relocated the tribe and settlers began moving in.
The area quickly became home to people of many professions, but agriculture was the largest. With mild winters and long growing seasons the valley become known for a variety of fruit crops. By the 1900’s the crops were being shipped across the country from California to Chicago via railroads.
Today the area is still strong in agriculture but is also popular with tourists due to the abundance of activities including hiking, biking rafting, and rock climbing. In May, baseball teams head there from Junior Colleges across the United States. Not only do folks enjoy outdoor sports activities but the town is also known for its cultural events, wineries and wine festivals and retail industries.

This amazing National Park is over 30 square miles of gorgeous red rock expanses, sandstone towers and deep canyons. A historic 23-mile road runs through the park where you can stop at your leisure and enjoy the breathtaking views, hike or bike and explore some of the aptly-named rocks like the Devil’s Kitchen, Coke Ovens or Balanced Rock

When enjoying the great outdoors near Montrose, weather can often be deceptive and change quickly. Be prepared for all conditions with clothing layers and drink plenty of water.
