The Wall Street Journal recently ran an article by Justin Lahart, about the advantages of selling  your larger home and downsizing now rather than in the future.  His thoughts on this are very compelling and worth considering.  Here is a link to his article, “Congrats, Your House Made You Rich. Now Sell It.”  Find out how affordable and convenient are Spruce Point Patio Homes.

Around and About Colorado

Crested Butte, Colorado

Crested Butte once served as a summer settlement for the Ute People. They were slowly displaced with the arrival of European-American settlers, mainly miners looking for minerals in the area.

It wasn’t until around 1860, that the surrounding region saw coal and silver mines established, creating small towns.  With the decline in silver prices in 1893, most of the towns went bust.  Being a supply hub for the remaining small towns helped keep Crested Butte going as did the ongoing operation of a coal mine from 1894 through 1952.  For the next several years, the town dwindled to a few families and the widespread ranches that had operations in the area.

Then in 1960, Dick Eflin and Fred Rice purchased property three miles north of town and built the Crested Butte Mountain Resort.  Crested Butte, the town, is now a year-round vacation destination and known as the wildflower capital of Colorado.

Activities in and near Crested Butte

Activities in and near Crested Butte vary depending on the season. It is known for its downhill skiing and other snow sports like snowbiking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and ice skating.  In the summertime, one can keep just as busy with activities like hiking, fishing, biking, golfing, horseback riding and so much more.

The town also offers opportunities to relax and unwind at local resort spas, shop at the plethora of boutique style shops or dine at one of many restaurants with flavors from around the world. Don’t forget to grab a drink at one of the bars or distilleries as you finish off your day.

About Montrose

The economy in Montrose is strong and the cost of living is reasonable, especially when compared to other cities in Colorado. The people of Montrose understand the importance of a diverse industry base. They work together to seek out unique businesses that can thrive in the area. The importance of new industry includes taking care of the people living and moving to the area. The community has obtained millions of grant dollars in recent years from organizations and agencies that see the potential here. These dollars have been used to fund the construction of a new rec center, new walking/hiking trails, a school and other community projects.

Montrose has the best of both worlds. On any given Saturday, you’ll witness a horse-drawn carriage on Main Street or a tractor slowing down traffic on your way home. Yet, we also have a top-notch hospital and a brand new high-speed internet service. We have a variety of retail options, enjoyable dining options, and a lively music scene.
